POEM: Making Christ known in our generation.

Bosedeh: We carry the gospel of truth and life with zeal.

We proclaim Christ in this nation.

We are Christ ambassadors to all generation.

We yearn for righteousness and thirst for holiness.

Anita: Why then are we silent

In a state marred by mediocracy

Once the Center of Christianity,

Now we are just a minority.

Bosedeh: The cup that Christ drank from I ask for.

The cross that Christ carries I seek for.

Making the gospel my daily occupation.

Anita: instead of the daily guide, social media remains our daily friend.

Our bible is just our Sunday friend.

Our love is just for selfish end.

Our self-righteousness drivers people that would be the gospel friend.

Our messages are all about prosperity.

Our charity is just for popularity.

Are we making Christ know in our generation?

Bosedeh: But, we’re random from death and sin

We cloth with love unconditional

We have abundant grace and fresh mercy every morning.

We are a Royal Priesthood

We are no longer slave, not even to the law.

Anita: In trials, we worry rather than speak to it with authority.

We planting churches in the cities with beauty,

And neglect the villages with no pity.

We attend church with lovely dress sometimes with hypocrisy.

We sing with lovely voice but with no sincerity.

Bosedeh: We accept and we will repent, with humility.

The passion of Paul we pray for,

The heart of Stephan we desire,

The wisdom of Solomon we long for.

let we all come to be inspired,

By their works and lives.

And set us on fire.

To make Christ known in our generation.

Duya master gee wi di merimeri,
Make we get the Majiji

Many People don’t think that PWA is as capable as everyone else.

In as much as people referred to them as “juice”, they also ask them silly questions such as “can you see me?”, “Would you ever die?”. Hamid called on all Sierra Leoneans to stop such abuse and encourage all to embrace and create equal opportunities for them. This questions and sentiments people have about PWA usually make them feel inferior.

” I’m calling on the government to fully institute and raise awareness nationwide about the Disability Act of 2011. All government hospitals and health centers nationwide must be instructed to give free and adequate medical care for all Person With Albinism. We are also calling on NGOs and philanthropists to help facilitate the free distribution of sunscreen lotion which will help PWA to beat skin cancer and ensuring that we have an equal opportunity like everyone”.

Myths Versus Facts about Persons With Albinism

We are not blind, we are smart and we can see.

We are not scary, we are your friends and be can be funny.

So let be friends, employ us.

Stop the discrimination and embrace us.

After the Miss University African competition, she said it might be her last. She believed she was done with pageantry. Her decision came about a series of struggle she undergoes in this her career

“I never had a manager, I have been single-handedly sponsoring all my competitions and travel. Many people promise me sponsorship but fail to deliver in the last minute. There were those who were giving unreasonable demand in exchange for sponsorship. The worst of it I was becoming more famous with an empty bank account and nothing much to show for it unless my crowns “

In 2018, she senses a wind of change blowing in Sierra Leone entertainment industry. This was an era in Sierra Leone history when a former Beauty Queen and Actress Mrs Fatima Bio became the First Lady of Sierra Leone. Former Miss World Sierra Leone, Magreat Murray become first female Anti-corruption commission Public Relations Officer, and more people in the entertainment industry started reaping the fruits of their labour.

“At this point, I realise that pageantry and entertainment might not to be an end but can be a means to an end of enormous opportunities. I was certainly ready to get back into it and take myself right to the top place “

She is a lady of a thousand dreams and one that can make a heaven out of an hell. She is a founding member of Shukubly, a group of fabulous 9 housemate salone stars. They are engaged in charity and have been giving an inspirational speech to youth across Freetown. It’s incredibly funny how the group was formed. They were classified as a group of gossipers and lot of stone were thrown at them. After housemate, they use those stones to build a group that will change the lives of youth that has been discriminated and left out for one reason or the other.

” One day, I dream of having a vocational training school where youths will be taught several skills. There is a stereotype in Sierra Leone that if you do not go to university or college, you have a dim future. I believe it’s a lie, but because of limited opportunities, it seems like the truth. I want to change it ” she explains her dream to us.

Former Hon. Osman Timbo speak on what’s Ramadan means to him

Former Hon. Osman Timbo is a fervent Muslim, member of Parliament, solicitor and barrister in Sierra Leone. He came from a strong Muslim background and his father was the fullah Tribal Headman for the western area before his before death.

Hon. Timbo says Ramadan is a time of refection, cleansing and fasting for him. He said every year he looks forward to Ramadan evaluate his life. Every Ramadan he said he tries to be better Muslim and build a stronger relationship with Allah. When asking if Ramadan brings any changes in his activities, he has this to say.

“Ramadan for me is just like any other month… In terms of zakat, I do that all the time, it’s one of the pillars of Islam, I just try to do it more during Ramadan. I also pray more during Ramadan. In terms of the things Islam restrict us from doing it does not affect me very much. I’m a person that didn’t go out a lot. During Ramadan, I just try to get home early so I can break-fast with my family”.

He strongly believes that Islam has been what’s has made him outstanding and making a difference in society. He said,

” One of the things that have taken me along in politics is Islam. Islam teaching me one thing, and that’s is humility. Do you know how we pray? , We bow our head on the ground and sit on the floor. We might be sitting by the poorest man. That’s humility has been what I have taken along in politics ”

Hon Timbo has been an inspiration to many young people in Sierra Leone. On this Ramadan, he admonished Young people to be good Muslim in and out of Ramadan.

” I believe both Islam and Christianity teaches us to be pious. You are not a Muslim because of Ramadan, you are a Muslim because you are a Muslim. If you take one of the pillars of Islam, then you are not a complete Muslim. Its the same with Christianity, if you don’t practice the teaching of the bible you are not a complete Christain. The thinks you are doing in Ramadan, you must try as hard as possible to do it throughout the year. End of Ramadan does not mean the end of one’s Islamic practice”.

Even though Ramadan is one is the holiest months in the Muslim calendar. This has not to stop 419er to do their work. People have been using Hon. Osman Timbo’s name to fraud people, he has this to say

” It’s very unfortunate and I don’t think it’s my name only they are using. They are using my name more so because I am a public figure and I am well known in the country. They are using my name to default people. They would call people and say its Osman Timbo and am requesting for certain goods and service. And they should send certain about of money through mobile money before they can have the contract. I will very do such.

Over 100 people have fallen victim of this and he has been on the air for the general public to be aware of such activities. He said he will never call anyone to send him money.

Sierra Leone: What Ramadan means to young Sierra Leoneans?

Eric Kawa is one of Sierra Leone’s 100 Most Influential Youths. He is a student at Fourah Bay College and works with Africanews, Capital Radio and Switsalone.

In an exclusive interview, he reveals what Ramadan means to him and how he has been observing it as a young Sierra Leonean Muslim.
Eric believes that Ramadan is a time of double blessing transformation and cleansing.

“Ramadan is a month of mercy, forgiveness, transformation and prayer. In this month, we believe, if observed accordingly, God will answer our prayers and forgive all our sins “

Due to this reason he advises young Muslims to stay away from wrong doings and come closer to Allah.

“Ramadan has been a time of prayer, fasting and cleansing for Muslims all over the world. It is also a time in which Muslims should give more Sadaqa (Charity) to the poor and share meals with families, friends and communities.” says Kawa.

According to him, Muslims should also embark in the recitation of the holy Qur’an.

“I have been reading the holy Quran, because as Muslims, we believe that it was in the holy month of Ramadan that the Quran was revealed to mankind. It’s very important for us to read it.”

For this young inspiring Sierra Leonean however, Ramadan has not changed much of his daily activities and the dress code; as he says

“I don’t change my dress code in Ramadan because I have been dressing well out of Ramadan.”

He tells me his diet has changed a bit and is excited about it. Since in Ramadan, he mostly eats less heavy meals and consume more beverages, fruits and vegetables.

Eric Kawa is a product of religious tolerance. He is from a mixed family background comprising both Muslims and Christians and belives Sierra Leoneans should always uphold religious tolerance and co-exist peacefully.

During this Ramadan, he prays for unity and religious tolerance to continue to prevail in Sierra Leone.

“I pray we remain united as we have been over the years. Our country is known as one of the most peaceful and religious tolerant nations around the world, I pray we maintain this status. I pray for Sierra Leone to be a transformed nation this month and the years to come ”

Eric further admonished Muslims to respect the rights of non-Muslims as they observe the Ramadan and expressed gratitude to the non-Muslims for also patronizing with them in this month.

He concluded by advising his colleagues to learn the lessons of Ramadan and continue with the positive practices after the month.

Umu Kulsum Bah a Sales Person at ANIQ Modesty Boutique speak on what’s Ramadan means to her and how she has been observing this year’s Ramadan. She is from a very strong Islamic family and was able to learn the Quran and Hadiths at a very young age.

This year’s Ramadan is not very different for her, fasting during the holy month of Ramadan has always been part of her life. She started observing Ramadan when she was 7 years old. She attends a Quranic school and an English school together, which she relieves was hectic. She believes that Ramadan is the best month of the year for her.

“Ramadan is a very blessed month, it’s a time God called us to be his Guest. It’s night are the best of nights and it’s days are the best of days. A time in which our du’ah, prayers and supplications are accepted and answered by Allah “

Ramadan has not changed her dress’s code. Since she was a teenager she has been wearing the hijab and dressing modestly. She hopes that one day all Muslim ladies would wear the hijab. Even when she is wearing hijab and dress modestly have not to stop men to watch at her and she knows worst is happen to women without hijab.

” As a Muslim, we should try very hard to fast in Ramadan and move always from all our wrongdoing. We ladies we should refrain for gossip and idle talk and foolish agreement.

This was her advice to her fellow young girls. She emphasises that ladies should try not to missing a day of fasting. Muslim must fast sixty days to recover for a day of fasting miss in Ramadan.

She has been eating a lot of fruits and vegetable this Ramadan. This raining reason has made a lot of fruit available for a cheaper price for many Sierra Leonean.

Her prayer for this Ramadan was simple:

” I pray that this Ramadan will bring everlasting transformation in our lives and our Sierra Leoneans and May all Allah accept our prayers “.

Sierra Leone: I want to be happier; what true happiness means to me.

Many people have told me I’m always happy but I just want to be happier. I want to have true happiness. A happiness that brings me peace, freedom and greater joy. One In which I will not only enjoyed in the present but one that I can look back at years to come and still smile and be happy. I want to have that happiness that will not make me lazy but that will gives me zeal in life. That brings determination and fresh dreams and aspirations each new day. That happiness that will serve as a motivation in my life and fuel to my soul.

I want to have that true happiness that will lead me to an expected end. Which will be a guide and comforter. One that we help me not only to make a temporary happiness decision but a permanent one. One that will move me from the wrong part and help me overcome my fear.

I want to have that happiness that will be contagious and communal. I want my whole life to be a bundle of joy to Everyone I encounter in life. A happy life that people will see me and just be happy. Happiness in life that will be a source of happiness to my family. An happiness that never cease and end but which is new every morning.

I want that happy life that will always bring joy and pride to my friends to called me their own. A happiness that I will not only enjoyed in the present time but in the future. One that will be worth sharing with my children.

I want that happiness that will bring joy to my father in heaven.

I don’t want that happiness that I will sacrifice every day for. That which can’t bring sustainable joy to me. A happiness that I need to suffer for and face rejection. A happiness that will only make me happy.

I’m totally in charge of my happiness because God has given me the key to happiness. I’m not bounded by any laws not to be happy and I choose happiness.

My Best friend will always say “Bosedeh George, do what’s makes you happy”

It’s 21 days after my 24 birthday and I will say my 24th year in life had been a turning point. But this was what’s I said when I was 16, 18 and 21 years old.

Papa Gɔd, duya ɜp mi.

Sierra Leone: I was almost arrested again

I was almost arrested by My university Security Officer because I was taking pictures in the university today.

I Know this may sound ridiculous but the security officer was very serious. He said he has been watching me for a while and I have been taking pictures and typing on my phone. He said it was a crime and he is going to arrest me.

Everyone is doing that all over the world. We all take pictures of places and send its on social media. If this was a crime all students of Fourah Bay college will be a victim. Everyone student has taken pictures in the university.

I know that it’s wasn’t a crime and I was not afraid to tell him and all the other security officers around in the security post. He was wrong and he had no right to arrests me or intimidate me.

At this conjunction, they were not saying anything senseable but demanding me to say sorry. I did not and will not acknowledge that I was wrong and I was not ready to say sorry. Saying sorry is like be selling my right. In the end, they gave me my phone and allow me to go but not without the intervention of our my christian union Ex- President.

This was not the first time officers were using their position to intimidate me and i was also not the first person they have done this to in Freetown. This is a common culture among freetownians Security officers and business people. I so hate this and I want it to stop in Freetown.

When you go to the market, the women are expecting you to beg them before they will sell to you. Especially women saying “fry fry” a sort of fast food.

” Bo duya sell gee me bo”

Almost every worker in Freetown is expecting you to beg them before they can deliver the service for which they are paid. Whether the waitress, the market women, the man selling tickets for a show, the taxi driver, the cashier at a bank, the tailor and many more are demanding us to beg them when we want their service. This is total nonsense.

I stop fetching water from a particular tap around my area not because I was not ready to pay but because I was not ready to beg and pay.

We need to respect one and other in Freetown and change ourways for better freetown and Sierra Leone.
